MMR Group TransComfort tests a machine for precision cutting of rails from polyurethane

MMR Group TransComfort has carried out tests of a machine designed for cutting rails out of polyurethane. The tests were conducted at the end of April in Łódź during repair works related to the need to replace rails embedded in polyurethane on a track shared with a bus roadway. The tested machine is the only one of its kind in Poland, and its technology was developed in Switzerland. This marks another step toward more efficient and modern maintenance of tram infrastructure.

 

In recent years, polyurethane has become one of the most commonly used materials for embedding rails in Poland. Today, many of these tracks are entering the modernization phase, creating the need for rail replacement – and with it, a real technological challenge. One key issue is how to carry out such an operation without interfering with the track structure. Until now, this has meant either dismantling prefabricated slabs or manually cutting out the polyurethane. Both solutions are costly, time-consuming, and inefficient.

 

MMR Group TransComfort addresses these challenges with a machine which technology was developed in Switzerland, enabling fast and precise cutting of rails from polyurethane. A key feature is the saw cooling technology, which allows stable operation even at high ambient temperatures. The result is:

  • significantly reduced working time,
  • limited interference with the existing structure,
  • improved safety and repeatability of the process.

 

After cutting, the rail can be sectioned, suspended, and efficiently removed using an excavator. This is the next stage leading toward more efficient and modern management of tram infrastructure.
